Announcement: China Historical GIS Data in Recogito
We’re excited to announce that The China Historical Geographic Information System, (CHGIS) data is now part of the public instance of Recogito!
The CHGIS is a database of populated places and historical administrative units for the period of Chinese history between 221 BCE and 1911 CE. It provides a base GIS platform for researchers to use in spatial analysis, temporal statistical modeling, and representation of selected historical units as digital maps.
The inclusion of the CHGIS in Recogito means that researchers will now be able to create annotations of sources related to the so-called core provinces of Dynastic China: (Anhui, Fujian, Gansu, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hebei, Henan, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Ningxia, Shandong, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Zhejiang) to investigate any sort of geographically specific data related to China.
Our thanks, as always, to Lex Berman and the team at the Harvard Center for Geographic Analysis for maintaining this brilliant resource.
